Take a break from your Black Friday shopping and let the thoughtful details in Amy and John’s Chicago wedding melt your heart … I’m especially loving their wedding bench guest book. / Images by You Me Photography.

Says Amy, “We wanted the wedding to be about us as a couple. We wanted a casual, relaxed atmosphere where everyone we loved would be together with us to celebrate. John and I love to have people over to our house and we wanted our wedding to feel like a party at our place, just on a bigger scale.

Amy + John’s Love Story

Our love story is a bit complicated….
We went on our first date in high school, but lost touch when John graduated the year before I did and headed to The Ohio State University (OSU). When I graduated high school, I started my college career at a small liberal arts school in Ohio, but decided it wasn’t the place for me. I transferred to OSU at the end of my first year of college. Although there were 56,000 other students on OSU’s campus, we would still occasionally run into each other between classes. Six years after we first met, we went on another first date and this time it stuck. Our new relationship was quickly challenged as John graduated from OSU and accepted a one year fellowship in Connecticut as I finished up at OSU in Columbus. We both ended up in Chicago, but I soon started graduate school 2 hours outside of the city. Finally our lives found a way to line up in the city we love. That’s why getting married in Chicago meant so much to us.

My flowers were put together by myself and my amazing family and the table runners were handmade by my grandmother and mother.

My favorite moment of the day was after we walked back down the aisle as a married couple and had the briefest minute for just us. Married. Elated.

My mother made my cakes, which meant the world to me. They were topped with a wire bicycle which we had made that will be hanging on our tree this year for Christmas.

If you could give one piece of advice to yourself back when you were a bride-to-be/groom-to-be, what would it be? Although, I don’t think I could actually follow this advice, it would definitely be “don’t sweat the details.” It all comes together in the end with really only one goal, to be married. And don’t be afraid to ask those you love for help, they are eagerly waiting for assignments.
